Sold in less than three months. Reliable sources and my own experience told me that it would take about two years to sell my 1993 Heard 28, Carlotta. She’s a gaff cutter of the type that appeals to only a few hardened old salts.
So how did RSB Marine sell her so quickly and for just under the asking price?
1. Attention to detail. The team made sure that they knew the boat inside out, including her history. Pictures were produced of her cruises to festivals in England and France.
2. Detailed photographs of all the attractive and important features.
3. All the paper work sorted swiftly and efficiently.
4. Contacting prospective buyers. Nothing was too much trouble in terms of emails, texts and phone calls to answer questions and arrange a viewing.
5. Excellent communication. At every step I was kept informed so that I was never left wondering what was happening.
6. Exhaustive local knowledge meant that prospective buyers were directed to relevant agencies without delay.
7. TIME. Both myself and the buyer were made to feel that they were the most important clients. Emails, texts and phone calls answered promptly. Always relaxed, polite and professional RBS were never too busy to chat, to advise or just sympathise. The atmosphere in their deceptively quaint, old, beamed office was cheerful. We had a good laugh.
8. Sad and relieved at the same time, I never thought selling Carlotta would be such a good experience.
"I have only recently finished an 8 year refurbishment project of a 40ft Trawler Yacht. I started looking for my next boat, which would not be another 8 year refurbishment project but a relatively speedy fishing boat in the range 25ft to 30ft. A boat that needed little work and was of a good build. I decided to set my sights initially on a Beneteau Antares 9 , it was a craft that offered the right accommodation , engines and comfort from all of the reviews I had received .
Then I came across the Rodman 800 , more specifically a Rodman 800 being sold by RBS Marine on behalf of another client . I initially made some enquiries with the specific aim of driving from my home near Fleetwood to view and have sea trials . However I realised that the information and help I was receiving from Dana at RBS Marine did not necessitate the long journey during a pandemic. A risk , I know , but with the superb level of assistance offered by both Dana and Ben I managed to receive answers to all of the questions I posed. They went way beyond the call of duty to provide the support necessary and in no time at all I had all of the information at my finger tips to enable me to make the decision to buy in only the space of a week. I felt as though I knew this boat intimately thanks to their assistance .
This support lasted throughout the whole process from start to finish and now some two weeks later she is now with me in Fleetwood Marina , "Surfer Girl" (that is the boat's name, not Dana!). I can honestly say that the whole experience was exceptional from start to finish and I would not hesitate to buy from RBS Marine in the future . Having received the boat in Fleetwood, it is every bit as good as I had expected , even more so when I discovered a couple of hidden treasures locked away .
RBS Marine have the winning formula, an experience at the age of 70 I have never been able to match anywhere else!! I wish you every success for the future and I will stay in touch."
Thank you very much for all your help in finding what we hope will be the perfect couple to take over Siare. We have had such happy times on that boat and hopefully now the new owners will enjoy it just as much.
It's hard to believe it was this time last year we were looking forward to getting Jodi T [Albin 28 purchased through RBS Marine Brokerage], it feels like we have owned her for ages and we are already talking about what we will do when the better weather returns in the New Year.
It has been our pleasure in dealing with you and we certainly won't hesitate to recommend you to anyone we know looking to sell a boat.
Thank you again for professionalism and friendliness at all times.
We saw our first Rodman Spirit at the Southampton Boat Show in 2012. In the subsequent seven years, Ben & Dana at RBS have demonstrated almost saintly patience with us - until finally we decided this year to bite the bullet & order a new 31ft Spirit Outboard from the factory.
Every step of the process from ordering, spec'ing out and then taking delivery in Birdham Pool has been truly exceptional. Nothing has been too much trouble, and it’s been an absolute pleasure to receive such high levels of old school customer support.
The 3-day handover training with Sean went totally beyond our expectations, so much so that we intend to book a few more days. As motor cruiser novices, moving up from ribs was quite a big deal for us. However, Sean took us through everything inside & out, again with lots of patience and we loved every second of it.
We really cannot recommend RBS Marine any higher. Highly professional & great people at the end of the day!! Thank you
Boat buying consultancy - "Many thanks indeed for your contribution , as our agent, to ensuring the successful purchase of "Catherine". You managed the process not only efficiently and professionally but in a way that made it a pleasure, not just for us, but also for the vendor and our surveyor to work with you. Not an easy achievement when a precious object like a much loved yacht is changing hands! It was reassuring to know that the "paperwork" was all being competently addressed and the of myriad other - important - "odds and ends" were all in order. In short, it was headache free (for us at least)! No fuss, no problems, no delays and all our questions dealt with by someone who knew the answers. Personal service of the first order. It made our boat buying venture a very pleasurable experience and we would have no hesitation in asking you to act as our agent again, and would recommend RBS to anyone who was looking for an agent to act on their behalf."
RBS have sold two boats for us in the past and and recently completed the purchase of our new boat from France. Dana’s attention to detail and generosity with her time made possible what could have been a complicated purchase - without her we might well have given up! Throughout our dealings with RBS they have given us a highly professional but personal service. Their after sales is second to none and the whole team is a delight to work with. Thank you RBS
Thank you for the care and attention with regards to the sale of Strongbow, which has turned out to be a stress free transaction. I am much relieved and I hope [the purchasers] have as many happy moments sailing her as we have had.
[The day of handover] was a sad day - but a great job by RBS Marine! Many thanks for handling the sale of Morwenna so professionally and efficiently. It was a real bonus that it was also handled in such a friendly way. We cannot fault the service that we received; we still cannot get over how well organised the process was and how rapidly it was completed!
Two happy vendors (happy even though we were truly sorry to see her go).
My search for a late model Hunter Ranger 245 led me to RBS Marine – they had what appeared to be one of the better examples, advertised on their website.
Initially, I was a little nervous about potentially purchasing a boat 475 miles from where we live, but RBS Marine made the process really straightforward, with their professional, “honest broker” and friendly, “can do” approach.
My (many) questions were all answered promptly and accurately, supported by literally dozens of explanatory photos, by e-mail!
The RBS Marine team were polite, helpful and friendly throughout our dialogue as well as during my two visits to Birdham. They co-ordinated on my behalf, with the Marina (for lifts), my surveyor and my boat transport company throughout the process.
All matters were handled smoothly and professionally, enhanced by a friendly and engaging approach, throughout.
When I first entered the office in Birdham, I was little concerned that RBS was a motor-boat dealer and all I wanted to do was sell my 18 year old, 32’ bilge keel sailing boat... But Paul and Dana were infectiously enthusiastic, and quickly gained my confidence with their combination of friendliness and professionalism. They advised on pricing strategy and how best to describe and present my yacht. Based on what I had seen on the internet, I expected it would take many months to sell but to my joy - and great surprise - they found a buyer within a few days of putting the boat on the market. Dana and Ben arranged the viewing, organised the survey, lift out and sea trial, and dealt with all the paperwork associated with the sale. A very smooth process - thank you.
Ben and Dana of RBS marine could not have been more helpful when I purchased a previously owned Hunter Channel 323 through their brokerage. They were accessible, professional and knowledgeable, and made the purchase very straightforward. Highly recommended!
We were delighted we chose RBS Marine to sell our Hallberg Rassy 31. Their cheerful enthusiasm and professionalism rapidly secured several viewings and ultimately found the right person for the yacht. Dana and Ben are two exceptional, very personable people, who have the ability to make the difference and we felt we were in very safe hands.
We finally got a 2006 Rodman 810 after months and months of looking for a new boat. We purchased her from RBS Marine in Chichester and we felt we had a pretty good deal. I just wanted to report that Ben and his team at RBS Marine have been very impressive throughout and have provided an excellent service. We had a couple of bespoke extras fitted such as extra cockpit railings for safety and some fold away seating and the quality, design, and finish are second to none. There were lots of extra services provided such as storage out of the water, and electric hook up as well as anti fouling and tired silicon sealant scraped and re applied and we found the RBS team to be a conscientious bunch with close attention to detail.
After now having christened her in her new Cornish home, we are happy to report just how pleased we are with her performance. The Rodman feels such a solid and sturdy boat which has given us new confidence to explore places that were way beyond the capabilities of our last boat. She is a big step up for us and getting used to her will take some time although after some great fishing and cruising in the last week we can hardly wait to get back out on her.
Thanks to you all for the friendly service and everything else you did... will definitely recommend you to others I know in your area! Love the Targa, and spent all day yesterday pressure washing, hull polishing, cleaning and sorting stuff on there. As promised to Ben, I will send some photos when I finish all the TLC. Best regards to all there.
From the first inspection of a 2nd hand Beneteau Swift Trawler 42, the backwards and forwards of negotiation and completion formalities, Ben and his team at RBS Marine were very courteous, helpful, informative and very professional at all times. Even now, 3 months after completion and having transferred the boat further along the South Coast, they have continued to answer various questions and queries that have arisen during my re-fit of the boat. I am delighted to take this opportunity to add to other testimonials and say that RBS Marine are an excellent company to do business with and can be trusted whether you are buying or selling.
Having had a few sailing boats for the last 15 years we decided to move to Motor Cruisers for a little more relaxation and comfort! We looked at many boats until we found a used Rodman 41 on the RBS Marine website and arranged a viewing with Ben who spent a lot of time helping with the transition from sail to power.
I made many requests for minor changes and servicing etc. which were all dealt with efficiently. Ben also helped arrange an initial handover skipper to help me with the first trip to our mooring at The Hamble, which proved extremely useful.
The whole transaction was dealt with in a friendly, professional and helpful manner which has continued post sale with help dealing with the inevitable queries that arise in the first few weeks of owning, what is quite a different boat for us, but one which we are very pleased with.
We would certainly be happy to use RBS again in the future.
